Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan nephews Rizwan and Muazzam entrance Sydney with their qawwalis

The nephews of the great Maestro Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan – Rizwan and Muazzam Ali Khan performed live in Sydney on 6th October 2018 at the Orion Function Centre Campsie. The concert was presented by RB International. It was yet another unforgettable concert Sydney witnessed.  A tribute to the legend by his nephews Rizwan and Muazzam influenced by their uncle’s passion for Qawwali, they trained at an early age by the great Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. They are the next in line to take the mantle of a tradition that spans over five centuries within the family.

The show started on time, the moment the singers stepped on stage they captivated the audience with their heart warming smile. Rizwan and Muazzam received standing ovation when they sang Sufi hits and qawwali from Nusrat Fateh Ali Kham which rocked the crowd and kept the audience spellbound.

Rizwan and Muazzam Ali Khan had many skilled musicians, the magic of duo’s musical brilliance kept not only the audience, but also the musicians engaged as well. What was unexpected was the superb sound from live orchestra and lighting effect and the giant screen on left side of the stage projected their close-up.

With the mind blowing performance both Rizwan and Muazzam were undoubtedly at their best and there was no better way to continue the performance with none other than the hit numbers ”˜Allah hu’, ”˜Rasta udik diya’, ”˜O re piya’, ”˜Mere rashke qamar’ and many more. The hands were up in the air and hundreds in the crowd were swaying with the rhythm. They performed complicated notes perfectly showcasing the thin line between Sufi and Bollywood, their range is incredible and out of this world. And we were there as the witness.

Audience applauded each and every song and enjoyed the evening thoroughly. Their voice pulls you to them as everyone in the hall congregated around the stage including me joining in the maddening crowd unoblivious of the fact that it was pretty late in the night. They had the audience completely mesmerised with everyone certainly having a good time.

The evening ended with, what else but some popular Punjabi numbers for the audience to get up and dance while some hesitant ones joined in by whistling along.    I am a stickler for good sound and organiser Parul Nagpal and his team brought an excellent artist duo Rizwan and Muazzasm to entertain us all, yet the sound could be better. It was a well organised show with stunning decor and visuals as a treat to boot.
