Call to value Diversity in the Workplace

Minister for Disability Services, Ray Williams is welcoming the premiere of ABC’s Employable Me series tonight.
Employable Me follows the journey of nine individuals with neuro diverse conditions as they search for meaningful employment.
Mr Williams said more than 123,000 people with disability in NSW are able to work but are currently unemployed.
“It’s important to focus on people’s abilities and recognise what they can do rather than what they cannot,” Mr Williams said.
“The Coalition Government is proud to have invested $500,000 in Employable Me.
“It aligns with our commitment to double the number of people with disability working in the public service and promote inclusion.”
During the series, participants meet with experts and undertake work experience activities to reveal their skills, unique talents and the contributions each can bring to the workforce.
“Autism will make me stand out from everyone else and what better way to get a job than to stand out as a giant sunflower in a field of poppies,” Employable Me participant, Jonathan said.
ABC Head of Factual, Steve Bibb, said this is a wonderful documentary series thatfeatures some of the most inspiring and resilient Australians you are likely to meet. “All they ask is for a fair go. Thanks to the jobseekers, Employable Me shines a bright light on the important issue of disability and diversity in the workplace. It will spark a national conversation as we take steps towards genuine positive change.”
