“Our thoughts tonight go out once again to the families of those who have lost their lives as a result of the severe storms that have swept across NSW.

The situation across our State remains precarious.

However, transport agencies report that the willingness of the commuting public in Sydney to “spread the peak” this evening has been successful.

I thank everyone for their cooperation.

These are the key messages for tomorrow morning:

  • To ease the strain on all our transport and road networks, please try once again to travel to work outside standard peak times ”“ and I again urge employers to be flexible;
  • All non-essential travel should be delayed;
  • Please avoid flooded areas ”“ in particular, do not drive on flooded roads; and
  • As a large number of schools will be closed tomorrow, parents should check the Department of Education website (www.dec.nsw.gov.au), or call their local school for more information.

State Emergency Service, transport and electricity utility employees are continuing to work hard on the recovery effort. They deserve our patience, and our profound gratitude.”
